Weather in Sardinia in May and June
After an early May slightly rainier than normal, the sun will shine at the end of the month while, the beginning of the long-awaited summer season will arrive in June. During the late spring, Sardinia is characterized by a mild climate and June will be pleasant with a slight rise in temperatures. The average daily temperature can reach a high of 30/31°C or drop to an average low of 24/27°C.
At the end of May and in June, average sea temperature is above 21° (in August it reaches 26°), ideal for a refreshing swim.
North or South Sardinia? Where to holiday in the Island
From the months of May and June, the whole Island is an attractive destination for holidays. In Costa Smeralda, the summer season opens with the Porto Cervo Wine Festival. Additionally, in the north-west coast of Sardinia, reopen all the best sea side hotels. The main tourist places in Ogliastra as well as the province of Oristano and both the south-east and south-west coasts of Cagliari, bloom in summer and are really appreciated by tourist who don’t like crowded resorts and beaches.
Sardinia Events and Festivals in May and June
There are several and very interesting events in May and June in Sardinia. The “Girotonno of Carloforte”, the “Rally of Sardinia” and the “Porto Cervo Shopping Night” are among those that you should not miss.
Girotonno, Carloforte
It is a 4-day festival dedicated to the ancient tradition of the “tonnare” (typical tuna traps) rooted in the whole island of San Pietro, in particular in the town of Carloforte. The event consists of music, shows, debates, and obviously, culinary competitions and tastings. The slogan of the event "Girotonno - Men, stories and flavors on the routes of tuna" underlines the deep relationship between the tonnare tradition with the Sardinian Island. Other Mediterranean towns participate to the Girotonno and each one present its own typical tuna recipes.
From the town of Carloforte, the only one on San Pietro island, you can discover the several beaches and coves of the coast and the unique beauty of the Sulcis Archipelago.
Rally Italia Sardegna, Alghero
Since 1978, the “Rally Italia Sardegna” is the most important motorsport event in Sardinia. This year, the west coast town of Alghero is the base and location for the service park. The cars will be then transported back towards Alghero and the north coast of Sardinia.
Porto Cervo Shopping Night, Costa Smeralda
Cocktails, concerts, DJ sets, and of course, a lot of shopping at the prestigious boutiques of Porto Cervo. From 7pm to 12pm, the famous “Piazzetta” of Porto Cervo welcome the luxury shopping lovers for a night of original events in the heart of the village. The event Porto Cervo Shopping Night will be repeated in August.
Porto Cervo wine festival, Arzachena (Olbia)
Wine tasting and events follow in the heart of Porto Cervo all with one common denominator: Sardinian wine and not only. Don’t miss the tastings at the Argiolas Winery. This holding produces traditional wines: Bovale, Cannonau, Carignano, Malvasia black, Monica of Sardinia, Nuragus of Cagliari, Vermentino.
The Feast of Santa Cristina, Paulilatino (Oristano)
Within the archaeological site of Santa Cristina a religious ceremony is held, ideal to discover local traditions.
The Feast of Sant'Antonio Abate, Macomer (Nuoro)
In this popular celebration held in the first weeks in June, the faithful bear on their shoulders the Saint’s statue to the peak of a nearby mountain. This is a procession 12 km long which ends with a Mass with local songs and a great feast. Excellent for photographing groups in traditional costume dressed as horsemen, housewives and artisans of the past.
